One of the persons I follow online is Megan Auman. She is "...a designer, maker, educator, and entrepreneur...", an amazing one :)!
Her manifesto in her "stuff does matter" site simply says everything, it teach us to value "stuff".
No matter what "stuff" we like, we need it to make our lives richer and meaningful.
My "stuff"- my creations, I make them for those who know how to give the proper value to them. The future owners of my creations/"stuff" are those who give value to handmade, buy handmade, and take care of their handmade items.

"Upcycling is the process of converting waste or useless products and disposable materials in new products with higher value, use or quality. Old materials in end of life are used just as they are in the trash, to give a new utility. Contrary to recycling, which uses energy to destroy the form and then transform into something new." - Wikipedia
I was thinking on how to write this post and how to tell "the world" that many of my creations are made with recycled materials, without having that idea of old, used and dirty stuff, that we often get in our minds, and I found this term - Upcycle. According to Wikipedia, this term was first used in 1994 by Reiner Pilz in an interview that he gave.
"But this is what I always did," I thought.
Well, although this term has only begun to be used in 1994, I have been using it since when I've started to sew, knit ... it was with the remains of yarn and fabrics that I started making clothes for my dolls, and this is a form of Upcycle!
In many of my creations I use old clothing, scraps of fabric that would go to waste, but are great for my jewelry, etc.
I love to create with old materials because my mind soon starts to imagine the unique and wonderful creations that will come out of that piece. Of course it also gives me a lot of work searching for the right piece (whether from a thrift shop, or in the old trunk of nanny) and turn it into the final creation, but it's worth the work, doesn't it?
And you, have you had the experience to upcycle, or buy something upcycled? How did you feel?

Estava a pensar em como escrever este post e como dizer "ao mundo" que muitas das minhas criações são feitas com materiais reciclados, sem passar aquela ideia de coisas velhas, usadas e sujas, que muitas vezes nos pode ficar na ideia, e deparei-me com este termo - Upcycle. Segundo a Wikipedia, este termo foi usado pela primeira vez em 1994 por Reiner Pilz numa entrevista que este deu.
"Mas foi isto que eu sempre fiz", pensei eu.
Pois é, apesar deste termo só ter começado a ser usado em 1994, eu, tal como muitas outras pessoas, já o faço desde quando aprendi a costurar, a fazer tricot... foi com os restos de tecidos e de lãs que comecei a fazer as roupas para as minhas bonecas, e isto é uma forma de Upcycle!
Em muitas das minhas criações uso peças de vestuário antigas, sobras de tecidos que iriam para o lixo, mas que são óptimas para a minha bijuteria, etc.
Eu adoro criar com materiais usados pois começo logo a imaginar as únicas e maravilhosas criações que vão sair daquela peça. Claro que também dá muito trabalho procurar a peça certa (seja numa loja de usados ou no baú da avó) e transformá-la na criação final, mas vale a pena o trabalho não acham?
E tu, já tiveste a experiencia de fazer upcycle, ou comprar algo upcycled? Como te sentis-te?

My Market Niche? / O Meu Nicho de Mercado?
These last couple of weeks I've been remodeling my shops so that they can grow, so that my passion for the arts can continue to exist.
Therefore, I have read many articles about how to move to the next step, and the first thing I had to make was knowing to give the right value that my creations deserve. When I'm creating, I always try each one of my items to be unique, so that the future owner also feels unique every time she/he uses my creation, and for me to give value to my clients as they deserve, first of all I have to give the value to my creations.
The next step would be to find my market niche ... here is my biggest difficulty, because for this step the articles I found indicate that we, artists, artisans, designers, etc.., must find a market niche where we want to belong, and then create the product that that market niche needs. In this step my truly “problem” is that I already have my creations, they are my passion, they are what I like to do, but how will I find the market niche that needs my creations, in order for me to be able to take my creations to the future owners and therefore add my value to their lives??
Share your ideas and experiences with me ... and with all my readers / followers.

Nestas últimas duas semanas tenho estado a remodelar as minhas lojas de forma a que elas possam crescer, e assim, que a minha paixão pelas artes possa continuar a existir.
Como tal, tenho lido muitos artigos sobre como avançar para a etapa seguinte, e a primeira atitude que eu teria de tomar era saber dar o valor certo que as minhas criações merecem. Quando estou a criar, tento sempre que cada um dos meus itens seja único para que o futuro dono também se sinta único sempre que use essa minha criação, e para eu dar valor aos meus clientes tal como eles merecem, primeiro que tudo tenho que dar esse valor às minhas criações.
O passo seguinte seria encontrar o meu nicho de mercado... aqui está a minha maior dificuldade, pois para este passo os artigos que encontrei indicam que nós, artistas, artesãos, criadores, etc., temos de encontrar o nicho de mercado onde queremos pertencer, e depois criarmos o produto que esse nicho de mercado precisa. Neste passo o meu “problema” mesmo é que eu já tenho as minhas criações, elas são a minha paixão, elas são o que eu gosto de fazer, mas como vou eu encontrar o nicho de mercado que precisa das minhas criações, de modo a que eu possa levar as minhas criações aos futuros donos e assim acrescentar o meu valor à vida deles??

Dark Blue Goldstone Necklace / Colar com Pedra-de-Ouro Azul Escura
Do you remember the post I wrote about the amazing gemstones I bought in a craft fair? I've used one of them: the dark blue Goldstone. I made a necklace to give as a birthday gift to a dear friend of mine, and look how it turned out:
To create this necklace I made a pendant with the dark blue Goldstone and some white magic stones pending from a silver plated ring. I crossed this pendant through a silver plated chain, so it would be dangling in the chain necklace.
To match with this necklace I also made a pair of earrings with the white magic stones.
I hope this necklace will bring to my friend all the good energy that the Goldstone has.

Lembram-se do post que escrevi sobre as deslumbrantes pedras que comprei numa feira de artesanato? Já usei uma delas: a Pedra-de-Ouro azul escura. Fiz um colar para dar como prenda de aniversário a uma amiga minha muito querida, e vejam só como ficou:
Para criar este colar fiz um pingente com um argola prateada onde coloquei a Pedra-de-Ouro azul escura e algumas pedras mágicas brancas. Passei este pingente por uma corrente prateada, de modo a ficar a balouçar.
Para condizer com este colar fiz ainda uns brincos com as pedras mágicas brancas.
Espero que este colar transmita à minha amiga todas as boas energias que a Pedra-de-Ouro tem.

My Item of the Day: Medium Necklace with Polka-dot Glass Piece
Don't you think this medium necklace with polka-dot glass piece is simple and perfect?
This lovely necklace is made with a red waxed cotton cord and a silver plated chain, and has a cute glass piece, in black and white polka-dots, at the front. It closes behind with a lobster clasp.

Fabric Waste Necklaces / Colares de Trapilho
I want to show you some of my creations that are a great accessory for the upcoming Spring/Summer seasons: my Fabric Waste Necklaces!
This fabric waste is nothing more than a strip of fabric waste, which can be nylon, cotton, etc., and gives a very unique and modern touch to jewelry. It’s pure recycling, purchased in skeins, these are usually made from the leftovers of the big pieces of fabric from textile factories, that would go to the garbage; at home, it can be done from an old t-shirt, or an old sweater, cutting it into long strips, and then you just use your imagination!
The Necklaces for Women:
Os Colares de Mulher:

Este trapilho não é mais que uma tira de desperdício de tecido, o qual pode ser de nylon, algodão, etc, e que dá um toque muito moderno e único às bijuterias. É pura reciclagem: comprado em novelos, normalmente são feitos a partir das sobras das grandes peças de tecidos das fábricas têxteis, que iriam para o lixo; em casa, ele pode ser feito de uma velha t-shirt, ou uma velha camisola, cortando-a em tiras longas, e depois é só usar a imaginação!
Este trapilho não é mais que uma tira de desperdício de tecido, o qual pode ser de nylon, algodão, etc, e que dá um toque muito moderno e único às bijuterias.
